In Memoriam

William (Bill) Weinig

July 9, 1938 - October 20, 2025

William (Bill) Insley Weinig, 87, of Ashburn, VA, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, after a battle with cancer. Bill was born,  the only child of Louis Julius Weinig and Freeland Maurille Insley. He grew up in Silver Spring, MD, graduating from Montgomery Blair H.S. and American University with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy with a minor in Economics.

Bill joined the United States Air Force after college, working as a drummer in the United States Air Force Ceremonial Band between 1961 and 1965 until his honorable discharge. His memorable service included performing at President Kennedy’s funeral and celebrations for the first democratic elections in the Dominican Republic. Bill spent most of his professional career as a dedicated civil servant, retiring from the U.S. Department of Energy in the Energy Information Administration in 2007 after many years of service.

Bill married Susan Elizabeth Dugan in 1983 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Arlington. Together, they had two children, Alexandra and Emily. They enjoyed attending concerts, working on home improvements, and family trips to Emerald Isle, NC. They were generous hosts, often welcoming friends and family for dinner parties and barbecues in their backyard—truly believing no weather was too cold for the grill.

Music was a lifelong passion for Bill, and he played the drums in a variety of bands. He loved Big Band, jazz, traditional German, and classical music. He was a drummer in The Edelweiss Band beginning in 1986, and served as its devoted band leader from 2011 until his retirement in 2021.

Bill was known amongst his friends for his deep interest in antiques and his exceptional collection of pre-World War I German beer steins. He served as a founding and active member of the Gambrinus Stein Collectors International group for many years. Bill was an active member of the St. Francis Episcopal Church in Potomac and St. James Episcopal Church in Warrenton. He believed in giving back to his community. He was a life-long blood donor to the American Red Cross and spent countless hours volunteering on community projects through his church.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Dugan Weinig; his parents, Louis Julius Weinig and Maurille Insley Weinig; and his cousin, William H. Morgan. He is survived by his children, Alexandra Weinig McGehee and her husband, Kevin, of Seattle, WA, and Emily Weinig Summers and their spouse, Bryce, of Pittsburgh, PA; beloved granddaughters, Grace Elizabeth and Caroline Obie; and cousins, Rees Ferriter Morgan and John Chadwick (Chad) Morgan.

Linda Priebe

Linda Priebe, wife of long-time TEB member, Brian, suddenly passed away from a stroke on Thursday evening, 10/23, at a choir rehearsal. She was a true champion and supporter of Brian's music and leadership in the band since 1999 - baritone / trombone / alphorn / German vocals. She truly loved The Edelweiss Band and provided important feedback and encouragement, especially when it came to sound and mix levels.

A gifted musician in her own right, she was a wonderful person and we will miss her presence tremendously. Additionally, Linda V. Priebe was an accomplished attorney providing legal services covering International, Technology Transactions, Media and Advertising and Government Relations.

She practiced law in Washington, Washington DC, was selected to Super Lawyers for 2014 - 2017, 2020. This peer designation is awarded only to a select number of accomplished attorneys in each state. The Super Lawyers selection process takes into account peer recognition, professional achievement in legal practice, and other cogent factors.
